EASY MANOEUVRE

Easy Manoeuvre developed from repeated encounters with walls, fences, obstructions, gateways and barricades across the Port of Rotterdam and my wanting to obtain access in order to gain perspective and learn about these systems which organise and regulate our worlds. Over a number of months I tuned into radio communications between the harbour and the incoming ships on a VHF radio scanner loaned to me from the Port of Rotterdam. Listening in, I became a kind of sonic voyeur. The soundscape features recordings of these communications alongside field recordings at this site. The sound was projected into curved steel sculptures which channelled the sounds and dispersed them so that the audience could step in and out of the sound between the structures, and physically tune in and out of the sound with their body.
